Someone to Watch Over You: London's Recycling-Bin Spies
In June, Renew London equipped a dozen recycling bins in England's
capital city with technology to track people's smartphones as they
milled about the city. The devices went largely unnoticed until the
appearance of an August article entitled, "This recycling bin is
following you." The piece set off a bit of a media storm as people
realized their every move was suddenly capable of being scrutinized and
stored away.

Viewers in New York, Los Angeles and Dallas will be able to watch the
US Open tennis tournament and the final episodes of the hit serial-
killer drama Dexter on Showtime this week thanks to a new agreement
between CBS and Time Warner Cable that ends a monthlong blackout. CBS
programming, which includes Showtime Anytime and video-on-demand
services, resumed on Monday at 6 p.m. ET.

Silverpop Promises a Personalized Web Page for Every Customer
It's no longer uncommon for marketers to customize the messages they
send via email, but such personalization capabilities haven't typically
been extended to Web content. Enter Silverpop, which last week released
a beta version of Smart Content, a new product designed to enable just
that. Smart Content leverages Silverpop's various modules in marketing
and tracking and website design.

Wait, What? AT&T Follows in T-Mobile's Footsteps
Despite being hit by a lawsuit from T-Mobile over its use of the color
magenta in its marketing materials, AT&T subsidiary Aio Wireless has
announced plans for a nationwide online rollout starting mid-September.
The Aio no-contract mobile device service is currently available to
customers in Florida, Texas and the Metro Atlanta area in Georgia, as
well as in Chicago.

Hyperloop Dreams: JumpStarter Thinks It Can, It Thinks It Can
JumpStarter aims to use its new JumpStartFund platform to help Elon
Musk's Hyperloop project draw the attention and investments it needs to
get off the ground. Musk's design for a high-speed transportation system
that could transport people between San Francisco and Los Angeles in a
little more than half an hour has drawn interest from the science and
tech communities.
