Why Oslo Is Off-Limits to Apple's Aerial Photographers
Apple's taken plenty of flak for its mapping system, and some of it is
well-deserved. After all, the maps have erroneously led drivers into the
middle of nowhere and shown buildings that appear as though they're
melting. Don't blame Apple if its images of Oslo, Norway, aren't
crystal-clear, however. That one's not on Apple. Norway has denied Apple
the license required to take aerial photos of Oslo.

Today's Story Highlights

Chromecast Update Snuffs Unauthorized Content
Google's Chromecast dongle may be built primarily to stream content from
the likes of Netflix and YouTube, but that hasn't stopped app developers
from expanding its reach. On Sunday, however, one such developer said
that a recent Chromecast update had blocked his Android application.
"Google's latest Chromecast update intentionally breaks AllCast," wrote
Koushik Dutta, the app's developer.

Makerbot Gives 3D Scanning a Whirl
MakerBot last week unveiled its Digitizer desktop 3D scanner, a $1,400
device that promises to accelerate the growth of 3D printing. The
Digitizer allows scanning of physical objects weighing less than about
6.5 lbs. When an item is placed on its turntable, the scanner points a
pair of lasers at it, creating a 3D model. The whole process takes about
12 minutes.

How Obama Killed the Tech Market, in 3 Easy-to-Follow Steps
At some point, as an analyst, you have to look for what ails an
industry, and right now, it isn't the economy or even a lack of
innovation behind the tech industry's woes. Instead, it is what appears
to be a massive attempt by the U.S. government to destroy it. While I
call out the administration in the title, Congress is clearly equally to
blame.

Vevo Brings Music to Life Through Video
If you've watched and listened to music videos posted on YouTube, you've
likely seen quite a few major stars with official channels featuring
their names with "Vevo" slapped on the end of it, like OneRepublicVevo
or LukeBryanVevo. Outside of YouTube, Vevo is a Web-based music video
service that also has an iOS app. Said app was just updated to provide
AirPlay support, in fact.

Ode to Groklaw: A Requiem for What Was Lost
It's not often we here in the Linux blogosphere must cope with death --
figuratively speaking -- in the projects and products we love. After
all, when it's open source, what may "die" one day will likely be reborn
the next as something new thanks to the beauty of forking, among other
things. Just recall Fuduntu -- it may have closed its doors earlier this
year, but soon afterwards Cloverleaf was born.

Emotiv Promises a New Window Onto Your Brain
You likely already know the things you like to do, like watching a
sporting event, as well as the things that you don't like to do, such as
sitting in traffic. We all experience feelings when participating in
such activities, and those feelings form the basis of a personal body of
knowledge that we draw on to know whether we like doing a thing or not.
