Why Oslo Is Off-Limits to Apple's Aerial Photographers
Apple's taken plenty of flak for its mapping system, and some of it is
well-deserved. After all, the maps have erroneously led drivers into the
middle of nowhere and shown buildings that appear as though they're
melting. Don't blame Apple if its images of Oslo, Norway, aren't
crystal-clear, however. That one's not on Apple. Norway has denied Apple
the license required to take aerial photos of Oslo.

Today's Story Highlights
Amazon Dips Its Toe Into the Brisk WiFi Waters
Amazon has run tests on WiFi technology that could give Kindle users
direct Internet connectivity, according to a recent report. The
technology uses spectrum controlled by satellite communications company
Globalstar, which is perhaps best known as a global satellite phone
service provider. It is possible that the tests were part of a series
conducted jointly by Globalstar and Jarvinian.

Delta Air Lines has outfitted its more than 19,000 flight attendants

Echopass Revs Its Engines for Enterprise Contact Centers
Echopass recently unveiled a new enterprise edition of its software for
corporations that use the cloud to manage their contact center
operations. The offering consists of more than 40 applications and
services aimed at centers that support between 500 to 20,000 agents. One
early adopter typifies the type of company for which this application
was developed, said the company's Rob Farris.

Former Windows Boss Sinofsky Resurfaces in VC World
Former Microsoft executive Steven Sinofsky, who shocked the high-tech
industry when he abruptly parted ways with the company shortly after
Windows 8 was launched, has joined venture capital firm Andreessen
Horowitz as a board partner. Sinofsky, a 23-year veteran at Redmond, led
the creation of Windows 7 and 8 and six versions of Microsoft Office.

New Payment Card Standards Go Beyond Compliance
Standards can be a way to get organizations to do things you want them
to do, but oftentimes they don't get them to do much more. The writers
of payment-card standards appear to have been acutely aware of that
phenomenon when the PCI Security Standards Council previewed their new
PCI DSS 3.0 standard earlier this month.
