Today's Story Highlights
NY 'Text Stops' Drive Home Safety Message
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has unveiled a plan to identify existing
Park-n-Ride facilities, rest stops and parking areas on the state's
highways as "Texting Zones." There's nothing now -- other than
impatience -- preventing drivers from pulling off the road into those
areas to read and send text messages, but with the new initiative,
appropriate signs will coax them to do so.

Brazilian Prez Rebukes US Over NSA
Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff gave a speech in which she -- well,
maybe it's best to just let her say it. "What we have before us, Mr.
President, is a serious case of violation of human rights and civil
liberties," Rousseff said, addressing the UN General Assembly. The U.S.
and NSA were responsible for "invasion and capture of confidential
secret information," she asserted.

Occipital Promises Mind-Blowing 3D Trickery for Work or Play
If you've ever used Microsoft's Kinect motion-sensing input device for
the Xbox 360 game console, you'll have an initial grasp of how
Occipital's 3D scanner for mobile devices, called "Structure Sensor,"
functions. Whereas game add-on Kinect is a sensor for detecting and
interpreting movement, new Kickstarter crowdsourced funding project
Structure Sensor is for mapping three-dimensional spaces or objects.

Google Adds Remote Locking for MIA Androids
Google on Tuesday rolled out a feature for its recently launched Android
Device Manager that lets users lock down a stolen Android device from
anywhere, via the Web. "This is something that should be built into the
OS and the platform because it's an inherent security feature," said
tech analyst Rob Enderle. Google is late to the game in rolling out its
remote lock capability.

ZevenOS' Neptune Distro: Linux the Way You Want It
If you are looking for a really decent, snappy and lightweight KDE
distro that installs easily onto a flash drive, check out ZevenOS'
Neptune. I have been a bit critical of Linux distros that failed to
connect wirelessly. I am very pleased, however, that Neptune includes
the drivers to use the wireless hardware.

Mail for Yahoo: The Joy of Local Email Without the Client
Since Marissa Mayer took the helm of Yahoo, one of her top priorities
has been to keep Yahoo Mail relevant to people's digital lifestyles.
Yahoo has always been on the bleeding edge when comes to webmail
interfaces -- steadily bringing desktop features to its online offering.
What it needs is something to attract eyeballs and subsequently, new
accounts to the service.
