Microsoft Delays Xbox One Launch in 8 Markets | By Paul Thurrott | Microsoft announced on Wednesday that it would be unable to meet its promise to launch the Xbox One entertainment console in 21 markets around the world at the end of 2013. Instead, the new device will launch in 13 markets, leaving 8 in the lurch.
"Our goal is to provide the best games and entertainment experience possible, and the team continues to make great progress on delivering Xbox One," a note on the Xbox website attributed to the Xbox Leadership Team reads. "In order to meet demand, we have adjusted the number of markets that will receive Xbox One in November to 13 markets, including Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Spain, United Kingdom, United States, and New Zealand, in November." This means that Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Sweden, and Switzerland will not receive the Xbox One until sometime in 2014. Microsoft says that many factors contributed to the delay, including Xbox Dashboard localization work, supporting additional voices and languages, and getting partners up to speed with apps and content that is meaningful for each market. To make up for customer disappointment, Microsoft will provide a free "pack-in game" with the console for those who preordered Xbox One in the affected countries. Details about this offer will be made available closer to launch, Microsoft said.
